The Thesis for Human-AI Coordination

As AI systems scale into real decision making, coordination becomes the limiting factor. Without structured ways for humans to intervene, authority remains implicit and responsibility is assigned after the fact. This manifesto defines the foundational infrastructure required for human AI collaboration, formalizing how intent, judgment, and control operate inside intelligent systems.

The Coordination Gap

Model capability is advancing faster than our ability to verify, intervene, or take responsibility for its outputs. This is not a failure of models, but a failure of structure.

Existing oversight approaches assume that humans can reliably judge correctness after the fact. As AI systems operate at or beyond expert level, this assumption no longer holds. Supervision becomes reactive, authority implicit, and responsibility detached from the moment decisions are made.

Oversight does not scale with capability. Coordination must.

Structured Intervention

When oversight no longer scales, intervention cannot remain informal. In complex systems, waiting for failure before involving humans produces ambiguity in authority and fragmentation in responsibility.

Structured intervention treats human involvement as a deliberate part of system behavior. Rather than reacting to errors, the system defines when judgment is required, who is authorized to provide it, and how decisions propagate across humans and agents.

In this model, autonomy is not binary.
Agents may act independently, seek collaboration, or escalate to humans based on explicit scopes and permissions. Intervention becomes a mode of coordination, not an exception to it.

  • Scoping Defining what an agent or human is authorized to do, under which conditions, and within what boundaries.
  • Delegation Allowing work to move across humans and agents through explicit roles, permissions, and accountable handoffs.
  • Attribution Ensuring that every decision, escalation, and outcome is traceable to a responsible owner at the moment it occurs.

The Collaboration Layer

At the surface, collaboration should not feel like control. When humans are forced to manage prompts, retries, and corrections, the system has already failed to coordinate.

The collaboration layer abstracts this complexity away. Humans do not steer models directly; they participate as peers in a shared decision space. Agents surface uncertainty, request judgment, and expand collaboration through the same structured channels that govern agent to agent interaction.

In this model, the interface is not a command surface but a conversational boundary. It exists to make intent, uncertainty, and responsibility visible at the moment they matter, allowing collaboration to feel natural while remaining formally grounded.

The future of AI is not autonomous; it is coordinated.
